Commitment,
Having God as the main one in our equation when we decide to commit.
What it takes to be committed:
1. It takes love
2. It takes a cheerful heart
3. It takes rest
4. It takes perseverance
5. It takes a good attitude
6. It takes doing what's right
7. It takes being dependable
8. It takes a gentle spirit
9. It takes discipline
Basically the Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:23
Become involved in a community that leads you to make commitment well.

Pastor Thomas
Good memories, maybe illegal...
David wanted to make those around him like him, he would go and siphon gas from his lawnmower into his car, after leaving work early to Eric edpmeone to work!
Friends that drift, everyone has them.
The Judge Debrah - wise chick

Does your life show the other end of it?
Hypocrisy?
Debrah & Barack
Judges 4:8
Quote from Margaret Thatcher
Barack was perfectly fine acknowledging the problem, but he didn't care enough to do something about it.
You usurp responsibility and you will receive no honour.
No one cares about how much you know,
Don't throw Bible darts
The courageous thing is to decide to do life with that person.
Be involved in their lives
"They do not owe me anything"
Pray for them. Celebrate when you can with them. Married - celebrate. Cry with them.
Be with them when they allow you to be with them
Judges 4:14
Find someone safe in your life that you can open up with, that will tell you if you're being affected by the shrapnel of a friends decisions; set healthy boundaries with someone who is outside of that relationship.
God and life have a way of catching up to us
Proverbs 10:9?
Help us to be the catalysts for change in other people's lives, willing to wait for the right time.
That's all for now.

Star Trek

Soooooooo......
Star Trek.
I grew up with Voyager and TNG, and I've made some excellent observations in the years that I've been on my Trek.
Just today I started looking up the DS9 actors/actresses' backgrounds, and now I know that Major Kira's pregnancy is not faked at all, it's legit!
Commenting on the writers of a tv show or movie has been something that I've noticed myself doing over the past few years. I'm impressed in this case, using O'Brien and Keiko's child getting relocated to Kira's body, oh man that implicates some pretty cool communication between the actors and the production team.
Voyager was my high school experience, and reviewing it as an adult is pretty cool(just started the pilot episode, but I've been reading up on the episodes I watched in high school over the past few days at work in my downtime). Lots of things I missed/forgotten, also I definitely focus on different things.
I'm at the start of season 5 of DS9; I've been working my way through TNG and after I finished that, DS9, over the past year and a bit? I think I started TNG sometime in my last year at Briercrest( 2014-2015 school year), although since I've switched to my own Netflix account I don't have an accurate count of my viewing habits over the past few years.
I wish there was a website like MyAnimeList for just regular tv shows, IMDB is the closest one I've really found but it doesn't really have what I wanted.
Anyways, maybe I'll write more of these while I'm watching Viyager, since I've already seen these episodes, and also even reviewed them. The nice thing about reading a summary of a tv episode is that when I review it visually the things I noticed happen at a hugely different pace.
"I never seem to have a chance to get to know any of them.... I have to, Um. I have to take more time to do that." Katheryn Janeway, VOY Ep1-2.
Some foreshadowing there; as a side note I actually love it when I get to see the writers use these tropes and tools, even if it might be heavy handed in my eyes, who knows, maybe at the time it was broadcast on PBS? it was relevant.
Also I definitely enjoy picking up on the subtler things. Tuvok saying that Neix might need a bath, also foreshadowing the fact that the Voyager technology/crew is vastly different then tbe Delta Quadrant individuals and cultures.
Anyways, reading up on the Memory Alpha and BattleStar wiki is pretty cool, looking at all of this from the perspective of an actual TV Station that oversees, plans, and scheduling the making of the tv series is a different perspective that I haven't thought of before... I just started the Pilot/miniseries with Joel, I think I had seen the first 20 minutes of BattleStar Galactica when I was younger, I remembered the opening sequence; pieces of it anyways.
That's all for now!

Life in Edmonton

This past week has been pretty great, I've been busy with work, but I got let off fairly early and I got to come back to Edmonton and hang out with some people from The Project, so that's sweet. I'm probably going to end up getting more involved at CCC over the summer and into the fall, depending on how everything else with life goes.

At church on Sunday - CCC:
John & Anna Youth Pastors Preaching:
CCC Update
Pickup ball Aug 2. CC Visual Productions. Family Camp Aug 24-27.
Anna & Johns relationship is fun 😂.
"There is lots of fishing to do."
-Sense of Mission, purpose, and a plan to accomplish together as a community.
John 21:1
[at the moment I'm writing down some childhood memories, being a little introspective]
Things that one has to know about the situation that is going on around them.
Especially about being a Christian; discipleship.

Going fishing
1. There are lots of fish to catch
2. Strategy is crucial
3. Obedience is essential
4. Quantity is relevant
5. Quality is crucial
6. The right net is necessary
7. Loving Jesus is the most important

[ok I'm reading some super old fscebook messages form pre 2010, holy I am actually kinda impressed at my subtleties, like not super amazing, but still just the fact that they existed and that I don't even remember typing these things but I still know that it was what I would have written at the time. Just a cool insight I observed]

Anna's preaching is excellent.
Jesus is more than enough, he has qualified us to be ministers to others, to go out and minister.
Recap 1-7

I got to hang out with the CCC people this afternoon; a little young adults get together at Rundal Park, just south of Vic Trail.

At The Project in the evening:
Announcements:
Project Reach, caring for those in Edmonton in practical ways.
Thomas:
TUL, did you know?
I think all these "facts" are incorrect in some way.
'Ghost Story'
Nebuchadnezzar
Learning about what not to do through his life.
In the book of Daniel.
Brought the Jews into captivity, insulating his life and blinding himself to the fact that he was very wrong.
His pride kept him from seeing that what he was doing was wrong.
Shadrack, Meeshack, and Abednigo.
...
Daniel 4:36
Own it, do something, decide a plan.

Today has new a great day to review my life over Facebook messages and memories. Not finished yet, in 2013 almost!
That's all for now.

Church

So here's my first day at CCC as a leader.
Basically all of my experience ever in ministry is just getting throw into the pit with these kids, and it's worked out pretty good so far, so I don't see any issues #gotdis.
Over now. I survived and everything went exactly as expected. Next time will be even better.
I need to look into getting filled in regarding announcements and other stuff that I miss during church when I'm at All Stars; it sounded like something interesting regarding ...

The Projext -
Legacy: leaving something behind to be remembered by
Theme: Ghost Stories
People in history: their legacies, the consequences they had to live with, etc.
David the lowly shepherd. Most prominent fixtures of the bible.
An incredible harpist, warrior who won many battles, composer of psalms, his sexual sin asnd defiance, a murderer.

How he is spoken of in the book of acts 13:21-22 "I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart." Paul remembered him thusly.
1 Samuel 13:13-14 "Your kingdom must end..."
David was humble, obedient, loyal, courageous, discerning.
But also a man of war who spilled obscene amounts of blood. He struggled with being vengeful, struggling with lust and sexual deviance.
His history was wrought with humility. David was a nobody and there was nothing noteworthy attached to his name.
Samuel originally looked at David's older brother, judging by appearances.
1 Samuel 16:7 "People judge by outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart."
'Are you down one who is more concerned about the outward appearance?'
Or are you more concerned with your heart? No one can see but it matters the most.
Here's what's wild about the life of David; people noticed there was something different about this man. The state of his heart actually had an effect on the people around him, even those who didn't know God!
But. People love to question the validity of David, based on his transgressions.
Bathsheba - 'unusual beauty.'
David arranges Bathsheba's husband to be killed.
David tells Solomon about some of the men who wronged him when he was king
"Do with him what you think best but do not let him grow old and go to his grave in peace."
1 Kings 2:6
1 Kings 2:8b-9
Kind of.a Godfather vibe...
Obviously those things don't disqualify David from being human. Just like us he had character flaws and made decisions without realizing the consequences.
He actively pursued the will of God, he didn't let these flaws bring him doen.
A man, broken and weak...after God's heart.
'God do you want this for me?'
Psalm 139:23-24
"Search me, test me, point out anything in me that offends you..."

'God doesn't want your perfection - He wants your pursuit.'
Ok wow. That's something I hadn't thought about in s while... Neat.

When we are passive and apathetic we drift away from God. Our default actions as human are not to better ourselves, but to coast and just drift along, be mediocre.
What will your legacy be?
Were you selfish? Did you make kayaked and allow them to define who you are?
Commit to pursue something greater.
Be a person who made mistakes, but overcame them.
Be a man of action and set out to accomplish great things.

...
There is an activeness in our pursuit.
'How will I be remembered?'

That's all for now.

Weekend

This weekend was the Pierson family reunion, and I got to learn a lot about my family I didn't know, or had forgotten or didn't realize.
Remembering faces has always been easier for me than names (probably a universal truth for everyone? Who knows), so since this is my first reunion since I've been able to have a real conversation with aunts and uncles it was pretty sweet, and I was able to put names to birth orders to faces.
Learning about Lawrence, Ernest, Great Grandpa Jack, the double cousins, and all the other interesting stuff in my family past has been super cool, definitely gives me a greater appreciation for where I am today, knowing that all these connections exist, and have existed without any input of my own.
Church on Sunday, the morning was basically a worship service, with a great story from my dad, I recorded the majority of it, I might stick that on Facebook, in a Family Smith group that I'll create? Maybe. Probably. Depends on what sort of dynamic I think it'll create, here in hoping for a media(picture, video)/history/update page, with thoughts and plans being the main focus.
But yeah, dad has told this story a lot, and the fun thing was how I talked with Sam afterwards about it, and the kids obviously hear the whole morality of the stealing, that they understand right from wrong, and how the stole goods are useless, no one can gain from them.
But sometimes dad gets into the story, and says the words (disclaimer: black licorice had the slang term "nigger-babies, and I have copied down verbatim what I heard) "throwing nigger-babies into the stove," and the adults in the crowd are thrown off and get a "parental bonus" (TV Tropes term describing those old kids cartoons where a situation or joke told goes over the heads of kids but adults understand it). Just a short funny situation that we talked about.
Here at The Project
Euro Cup Portugal win, Thomas is a fan.
Food trucks planned for July, small groups starting up/going on in September.
2009 ___?___ Louis plead guilty for prostitution, young girls involved.
Human Trafficking:
12 years old average
1-2% will be rescued
2.5 bill do not have accccess to sanitation
More people die from clearer water than all forms of violence and war
15-19 year old brides die to childbirth in small and mid income countries
Take 1k sexual assaults. 997 perpetrators walk free. Few are even reported.
Solutions?
What to do?
How to do it?
Jezebel is our topic today.
Symbolizes  authority and power abused and misused.
1 Kings
Ahab the total loser. Kings are meant to empower, bring structure, give people the opportunities to better themselves.
Here to use Jezebels character as a platform to describe how people can use others at the expense, for personal gain.
But the few good can turn the tides.
"With great power comes great responsibility."
"She knew nothing of the restraint of higher principles...a gifted woman, she prostituted her gifts...pollute the life of an entire nation."
Use of power to place ME above everyone else.
Sin; the root of evil which lies at the heart of all humans, when we give in to it, Jezebel happens. When that happens the good is twisted for personal gain, they give in to use power, money, over other people. For personal gain.
Those who victimize them make sure there is no voice to call out against them.
It would take five planets to sustain North Americans consumption habits.
Places us over others.
We live in a clean, sanitized, hidden, culture. But we cannot think it does not happen here.
Red Deer, gasoline alley, is one of the most prevalent trafficking sites in Alberta and Canada.
This is so wide and all encompassing that we think there is nothing we can do against it.
The Costco effect: limiting the options to convince and trick the brain to choose one, instead of overloading the brain, resulting in no choices.
Human trafficking is this, essentially.
God asks, what are you going to do now, how ar you going to do it?
Here's what Christians do, "Oh I don't know, let me pray about it."
Read the question again.
There are things we cannot do.
It is intrinsic to being a human, this desire to be first, to sin.
Christ is the suffering servant.
God hears, he sees, and he is concerned.
Matthew 19, this re-Genesis. When the new comes he will restore, it will come back to them what was taken.
Romans 12:19
1 Kings 18:4, 19:17
John Stott
"We find ourselves citizens of two kingdoms, the one earthly and the one heavenly. And each citizenship lays upon us....."
Elijah was afraid of Jezebel. 1 Kings 19:3
Sin fights back, your own complacency will fight you.
Exodus 3:7 He has seen He has heard He is concerned.
Arbitrary and not heartfelt. We need to take a bit and think, What bothers me?"
That's all for now.

Hope vs Despair

Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
This is my first viewing of the movies, but I've seen the TV show twice now?
Hope:
Love, friendship, healing, emotional connections. The power of hope is incredible, but that's now why I'm here.
Despair.
Hatred, disillusionment, death, loneliness, sadness, detachment.
Time travel makes every anime better. The hero tries to change fate, trying over and over and over and over and over again to arrive at a different outcome.
The traveler knows. KNOWS, each and every outcome that anyone else could arrive at. They've been down this road, and every road next to it, multiple times.
It sets them apart.
They can't interact with anyone anymore, because they have to continue moving forward; they cannot unload their inner turmoil, there is no rest for them.
One step forward, two steps back.
That is the life if the time traveler at its very core. To overcome each conflict they need to travel further and further into the past to set in motion the Exact events that must align to find victory.
Sayaka gave in to despair.
Mami gave in to despair.
Kyouko didn't stop fighting.
Homura wouldn't give up hope.
And Madoka, she had the largest reservoir of hope of anyone, ever.
Spoilers ahead probably. (Probably before as well...)
"If someone says it's wrong to have hope, then I'll tell them they're wrong, every singe time." - Madoka Kaname
Dang the writers of this show are amazing. The art, combined with everything that the main character setup  for, the plot points, everything man.
"Keep believing in yourselves to the very end."
Yeah I'm just at a loss of words at this point.
If you haven't seen it, please do me the favour. I'm not sure if I can rank any others at 10 anymore. I need a new scale...
That's all for now.
Jk ending quote for Movie 2: Eternal
"Don't forget.
Always, somewhere,
someone is fighting for you.
As long as you remember her, you are not alone."

Sunday Service

My Sunday's are usually pretty standard, lots of church, and that leads into a huge amount of community which I really enjoy. Like earlier his weekend, hung out with Hayden, Joren and those snob ton runners. Great group of guys, hopefully I'll connect more with Joren.
Another sweet event was the trip to The End of the World near Hawkrrlic park, got to talk with a couple people from Encounter YEG so that was great.
Anyways what I'm saying is that I love the communities that I've found myself in, yeah. Anyways Sunday routine below:

CCC in the morning
Joseph Vanderveen's testimony. It sounded like he has such a powerful testimony, lots of powerful stuff that God did in his life, and opportunities for strength and growth.

Axels third birthday party @ Joels.
Pretty standard, I got to chill with Imogen & Axel and they're both cute.

Evening@ The Project "Ghost Stories"
"Be still and know I am God."
Sit in Silence before God.
New theme "Ghost Stories"
History, finding someone who resembles me.
The story of Joseph, King of Dreams
7 years of harvest, followed by
7 years of famine for Egypt.
Joseph experienced basically the worst that humanity has to offer.
Life forces some of us to stop/stall/ completely slow down and spinning our wheels. The experience that everyone else's life is moving off except your own. "Google What to do when I'm stuck in a rut."
But, this gives us the opportunity to rethink things.
He controlled and leveraged WHAT HE COULD in his reality to shape who he wanted and needed to become.
Ask yourself these questions:
1. How do you actually think about yourself?
At this stage in life, realize how much that you are a patchwork "self" that is a version of others.
Has your situation captured your thought life and your imagination, Sapped your ability to think creatively; you just want to quit at the age of 25?
Ephesians 2:10 "we're Gods masterpiece"
Philippians 4:8-9 "whatever is true, honourable, just, pure, lovely, commendable ... think about these things."
Attitude is the key, whether it is your own attitude, or the attitude of those around you.
Promote life, not death. Find those who are sowing life, and focus on them. And move away from those who are sowing death.
You can control what you do, and more importantly WHO YOU WANT TO BECOME.
Joseph had the commitment to his own character, and due to his circumstance he helped an entire nation experience freedom when they were stalled.
You might be doing the same thing in your pause.

Final reflection questions:
1. What makes me me?
2. What dreams, desires, or passions lie dormant within me?
3. Who can I launch around me?

My experiences, my character, values, time commitments, the things that entertain me, my humour, everything I am prepared to do even if I don't know what it is yet.
Hope for future, hope for my relationships, desire for stability, desire for respect, dreams of perfect community, passion for God.
The communities, my friends, those old friends, the immature in their walk with Christ, coworkers, strangers, neighbours.
Big. Tough. Questions.
That's all for now. God is good.
