Star Trek.
I grew up with Voyager and TNG, and I've made some excellent observations in the years that I've been on my Trek.
Just today I started looking up the DS9 actors/actresses' backgrounds, and now I know that Major Kira's pregnancy is not faked at all, it's legit!
Commenting on the writers of a tv show or movie has been something that I've noticed myself doing over the past few years. I'm impressed in this case, using O'Brien and Keiko's child getting relocated to Kira's body, oh man that implicates some pretty cool communication between the actors and the production team.
Voyager was my high school experience, and reviewing it as an adult is pretty cool(just started the pilot episode, but I've been reading up on the episodes I watched in high school over the past few days at work in my downtime). Lots of things I missed/forgotten, also I definitely focus on different things.
I'm at the start of season 5 of DS9; I've been working my way through TNG and after I finished that, DS9, over the past year and a bit? I think I started TNG sometime in my last year at Briercrest( 2014-2015 school year), although since I've switched to my own Netflix account I don't have an accurate count of my viewing habits over the past few years.
I wish there was a website like MyAnimeList for just regular tv shows, IMDB is the closest one I've really found but it doesn't really have what I wanted.
Anyways, maybe I'll write more of these while I'm watching Viyager, since I've already seen these episodes, and also even reviewed them. The nice thing about reading a summary of a tv episode is that when I review it visually the things I noticed happen at a hugely different pace.
"I never seem to have a chance to get to know any of them.... I have to, Um. I have to take more time to do that." Katheryn Janeway, VOY Ep1-2.
Some foreshadowing there; as a side note I actually love it when I get to see the writers use these tropes and tools, even if it might be heavy handed in my eyes, who knows, maybe at the time it was broadcast on PBS? it was relevant.
Also I definitely enjoy picking up on the subtler things. Tuvok saying that Neix might need a bath, also foreshadowing the fact that the Voyager technology/crew is vastly different then tbe Delta Quadrant individuals and cultures.
Anyways, reading up on the Memory Alpha and BattleStar wiki is pretty cool, looking at all of this from the perspective of an actual TV Station that oversees, plans, and scheduling the making of the tv series is a different perspective that I haven't thought of before... I just started the Pilot/miniseries with Joel, I think I had seen the first 20 minutes of BattleStar Galactica when I was younger, I remembered the opening sequence; pieces of it anyways.
That's all for now!
